Translational Research in Hematopoiesis and Leukemia Therapy
Laboratory of Kathleen Sakamoto, M.D., Ph.D.
Division of Hematology/Oncology
Department of Pediatrics
An opportunity is available to study transcription factors and signaling pathways in normal and
malignant hematopoiesis in addition to mechanisms of leukemia therapy. Leukemia cell lines,
primary hematopoietic cells, and other models are studied in the laboratory. Technologies
employed in the lab include colony assays, transduction/transplantation, xenograft models and
bioluminescence, expression profiling, and nanotechnology. This position is for individuals
who have received a Ph.D. in molecular biology, cellular biology, and biochemistry and have
2-3 years of postdoctoral training. Funding through a Developmental Hematology T32 training is
available for 2 years (K. Sakamoto, P.I.). This postdoctoral position has the potential to
develop into an Assistant Researcher or Adjunct Assistant Professor faculty appointment in the
Department of Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Our laboratory of 10 individuals includes junior faculty (M.D.s), graduate students, undergraduate
students, and technicians. Research is funded by the NIH, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of
America, William Lawrence Foundation, and Abbott Laboratories, Inc.
